According to MOH (Ministry of Health [MOH], 2012), 80% of the primary healthcare services in Singapore are provided by private practitioners. General Practitioners (GPs) can play a significant role in detecting and providing primary level care services to children with mental health difficulties.

The location of many GP clinics in the heartlands, coupled with the option of after-office hours and weekend consultation, provide wider options for young patients and their caregivers.

The GP-School Network adds value to the Singapore's mental health services by caring for mild or stable mental disorders in the community, greatly improving the accessibility of services whilst allocating tertiary level care to those who need them most.
