IMH conducts forensic psychiatric assessments for all patients who are remanded by the courts of Singapore. The psychiatrists assist Singapore’s Judiciary as an expert witness during court trials. This department also runs an outpatient forensic clinic for patients who have been charged for various offences and have been referred for compulsory outpatient forensic assessment.
This team comprises psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, medical social workers and nurses.
Referrals to the clinic are accepted from private lawyers and the police. The clinic also provides outpatient psychiatric follow-up for patients who have been discharged from the criminal procedure code but require compulsory outpatient care.
