Message from VCMB (Education)

At IMH, education plays a pivotal role in advancing the high standards of clinical and patient care in the delivery of mental healthcare services.

We recognise the importance of investing in education to train the future healthcare professionals to serve community’s mental healthcare needs across the lifespan.

Furthering medical, nursing and allied health education

IMH takes a key role in furthering graduate medical education through NHG-APL Residency programme, accredited under ACGME-I, as the main site for residency training in Psychiatry (National Program).

Our education initiatives extend to primary care where we have partnered National University of Singapore to offer Graduate Diploma in Mental Health to GPs to support our patients in the community.

As part of our commitment to world-class education, the Joanna Briggs International (JBI) – IMH (Singapore) Centre for Evidence-Based Practices in Mental Health Care has since been established in 2010 for nursing and allied healthcare professionals to advance evidence-based practices and research, and translate these to improving patient outcomes.

Building capacity & capability in community mental healthcare training

With the strong foundation in continuous learning, we have seen many of our clinicians mature into trainers. Our interdisciplinary teams, comprising medical and allied health professionals, take on active roles in training community agencies and stepped-care organizations.

Training spans across sectors, from youth to elderly, and delivered in diverse settings, from schools to corporation. In addition, caregiver training delivered as part of patient care helps families support recovery.

Looking ahead, community outreach and mental health training will continue to feature strongly alongside quality clinical services and research as IMH innovates to remain relevant as the tertiary mental health centre of choice internationally.

We look forward to working with our partners, patients and their families in advancing care through continuous training and education.
