Pick ‘n’ Choose Thrift Store

Situated at the right corner of BLK 1 (Occupational Therapy Department) overlooking the Tranquil Garden, is our very own IMH PICK ‘n’ CHOOSE THRIFT STORE. You can fill your shopping time here with a vibrant mix of retail products ranging from MEN’s/WOMEN’s wear, accessories, books, gifts/souvenirs, household items, toys, watches, VCDs/DVDs, household appliances, electronic items and many more!

In addition, a donation bin is situated in IMH CARPARK A where you can drop your items-in-kind for it to be resold at affordable costs at branches of the Family Thrift Stores.

IMH PICK ‘n’ CHOOSE THRIFT STORE is a collaboration between SALVATION ARMY & THE INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH to create a structured vocational rehabilitation programme where outpatients could be trained in the task of working within a thrift store. This collaboration is also an avenue of employment for our clients (as Salvation Army is willing to employ our clients should they be found suitable).

The Red Shield Industries (RSI) Family Thrift Stores are a social enterprise as well as a serving ministry. The Salvation Army receives donations-in-kind from the public and companies. In turn, RSI resells them at affordable costs through its network of Family Thrift Stores. The income generated supports Salvation Army social and community programmes.

Jobs are created through the RSI work-therapy programmes for under-privileged people. The work helps them to earn a living and gain useful employment experience so they can be reintegrated into society.

RSI is also active in fundraising, receiving generous support from many organisations by way of donations or the offer of premises to hold bazaars for the purpose of carrying out mass-collection exercises.
