The Medical Social Work Department in the Institute of Mental Health comprises a team of Medical Social Workers and Social Work Assistants who work closely with the multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses and occupational therapists to provide a comprehensive range of psychosocial services to patients and their caregivers.
The services help patients and their caregivers alleviate psychosocial problems that affects their recovery so as to enable them to derive maximum benefit from the treatment of their illnesses and to re-integrate into the community as soon as possible.

Services
We work with patients, their caregivers and the community to ensure needs are identified at the appropriate time and attended to as soon as possible. We are trained to assess psychological and social needs and to assist patients and their caregivers identify relevant resources and services to resolve their problems.
Our services include:
- Casework Management where we provide:
- Information and referral services
- Financial / practical assistance and referrals
- Rehabilitation and job placements
- Care planning services
- Social risk assessment for issues like domestic violence and child Abuse
Counselling Services
We provide counselling to assist patients to manage their illness and relationship difficulties. Marital and family therapy is also available to help patients address issues relating to communication and relationship difficulties.
Family Psycho-education Programme to educate families on certain illnesses like schizophrenia and depression and coping strategies to care for patients.
Caregiver Support to equip and support caregivers in their journey of caring for patients.
Training and Public Education
We partner our healthcare team to provide educational sessions to our community partners on mental health issues. These sessions can be conducted through seminars, talks or workshops.
