The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) provides specialist outpatient services for psychological and psychiatric problems. Our dedicated multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, medical social workers and occupational therapists ensure that our patients receive comprehensive care. Treatment is designed to meet each person's needs. Objective The programme is to assist young persons (under18 years) who wish to stop smoking and who require professional help to change their smoking behaviour. It will be conducted by doctors, psychologists, nurses and medical social workers. It is organized by the Smoking Cessation Clinic, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Health Promotion Board. The Smoking Cessation Programme The programme comprises two components. The participant first attends an assessment clinic where the participant will be assessed on his/her readiness and motivation to stop smoking. This is followed by 2 other workshop sessions to teach them coping skills to curb their smoking habit. 1) The assessment clinic A self-administered questionnaire on the smoking history, personal and family situations and motivation to stop smoking is to be completed before attending this clinic. For student, the teacher will supervise the student in filling up the questionnaire. 2) The therapy workshops After assessment by the doctor, participants will be grouped to attend group therapy workshops.
