Common anxiety disorders include Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Phobias, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Mood disorders include major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, dysthymia, adjustment problems, bereavement and grief reactions. Symptoms of depression may vary from individual to individual. Common symptoms include feelings of sadness, tiredness, loss of enjoyment, sleep and appetite disturbance. Other patients may experience feelings of guilt, worthlessness and even thoughts of suicide. Bipolar disorder patients experience extreme mood swings. Mania, which is the opposite of depression, is characterized by feelings of elation, increased energy, decreased need for sleep, inflated self-esteem, grandiose ideation and excessive goal-oriented activities. Dysthymia is a milder form of chronic depression. Patients may also suffer adjustment problems such as grief, bereavement, as well as stress or work-related difficulties.
