Research

The Research Division was established in 2000 in the Institute of Mental Health with the support of the National Medical Research Council (NMRC).

Its objectives, since its establishment is to do clinically and scientifically relevant research, which will contribute meaningfully to knowledge, clinical care, and policy making. Through an in-house funding mechanism, the Research Division supports an average of 20 pilot or start-up projects annually. Our Investigators actively seek and have been successful in securing individual grants awarded competitively by NMRC, BMRC, A*STAR consortium and other funding bodies.

Over the years, the Research Division has grown considerably. Currently it is headed by the Vice-Chairman Medical Board (Research) of IMH and supported by an Assistant Director, a Manager, an Executive and an Administrative Assistant who provide the core administrative support to all ongoing research projects, as well as a team of coordinators and research assistants.

Programmes
IMH Mental Health research is coordinated through three programmes and strategic initiatives.

  1. Programme For Mental Health Policy Studies
  2. Programme For Clinical And Biologic Studies
  3. Programme For Intervention Studies

Recently, the Translation Clinical Research Programme in Neuroscience was awarded to IMH (Principal Investogator: A/P Chong Siow Ann). With this SGD25-million grant, a centre of research excellence in the area of psychosis will be established. By building on existing, local, capabilities in collaboration with renowned overseas research institutes.
