The Institute of Mental Health/Woodbridge Hospital (IMH/WH) is a 1,980-bed acute tertiary psychiatric hospital located on a sprawling 25-hectare campus called Buangkok Green Medical Park, in Buangkok View. It is the first mental health institution in Asia to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation in 2005. The JCI award represents a worldwide consensus on quality patient care and reflects the state-of-the-art healthcare practices. IMH/WH is equipped with modern facilities, with 50 wards for inpatients and three Specialist Outpatient Clinics for outpatients. IMH/WH offers a multi-faceted and comprehensive range of psychiatric, rehabilitative and counselling services designed to meet the needs of three groups of people, namely, (i) children & adolescents, (ii) adults and (iii) the elderly. There are seven clinical departments, namely: In addition, IMH has two specialised clinics to treat more specific disorders: Our multi-disciplinary approach to patient care is supported by the departments of Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Medical Social Work. IMH also provides integrated and accessible care to our patients through three Behavioral Medicine Clinics located at Stirling Road, within the Polyclinic in Geylang and at the Health Promotion Board (HPB) Building in Outram. Our Child Guidance Clinic (CGC) is located at the HPB Building and also at IMH. In addition to these satellite clinics, IMH runs an extensive range of therapeutic activities at three Day Centres located at IMH, Bukit Batok and Alexandra. IMH also has a Mobile Crisis Team that supports patients and their caregivers during crisis situations outside the hospital setting. Aside from services for the mentally ill, IMH runs mental health education programmes for the general public. These programmes aim to promote mental wellness and raise awareness of the importance and benefits of prevention, early detection and treatment of mental disorders. Within corporate settings, our Corporate Consulting Services unit supports corporations in their efforts to ensure the mental well-being of their workforce. A multi-disciplinary team of specialists offers a comprehensive range of mental health courses, workshops and coaching sessions and services that include workplace emotional health programme, crisis management and private emotional health consultations for employees. Besides providing psychiatric services, IMH/WH also undertakes to coordinate and oversee research and training of clinicians in psychiatry. Over the years IMH has established a significant reputation for quality psychiatry research. Research funding and the number of research projects undertaken have doubled in 2006. Our pool of psychiatrists and psychologists are also authors of many research papers and lay publications on mental well-being. |
