AXA Postdoctoral Fellowship 2011

The Child Guidance Clinic, part of the Institute of Mental Health (Singapore), invites applicants for the 2011 AXA Postdoctoral Grant Call.

Annually, the AXA Research Fund grants thirty post-doctoral fellowships. Fellowships are granted for one year to candidates with a good track record of academic excellence, and whose projects are both innovative and feasible. Globally, the rate of selection is 15%. The Child Guidance Clinic currently hosts one AXA Postdoctoral Fellow. For the 2011 grant call, the Clinic can only propose 2 candidates; thus, all applications will first be subjected to internal short-listing.

Interested applicants, please submit a copy of your CV, 2 academic references, and a statement of your research interests by 7 February 2011 to A/Prof Daniel Fung (via Ms Shirley Chen: Shirley_Chen@imh.com.sg). Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by 18 February 2011. Only selected candidates will be invited to submit the full set of AXA application documents.
*Note: There will be another call for applications in August 2011; interested candidates may also write in to express interest for this second call.

Duration of postdoctoral fellowship

The postdoctoral fellowship will last for one year, with a possibility to extend for another year. Successful post-doctoral researchers will need to have defended their PhD thesis before the fellowship begins; this start date must be no longer than 12 months from the date from which the AXA grant is announced.

Potential research topics
Post-doctoral work will need to fall within the scope of the themes identified by the AXA Scientific Board (see AXA modus operandi for full list). Applied to the Child Guidance Clinic, relevant topics include:

  • disruptive behaviour disorders (e.g., ADHD, Conduct Disorder),
  • addiction to videogaming and other technologies, and
  • other addiction- or risk-related topics affecting the young population.

(Note: Research with a clinical-only orientation is out of the scope of AXA funding.)

Details of AXA funding
The AXA postdoctoral fellowship comes to a maximum of €120 000 for the entire duration of the funding, and covers the following:

  • The annual gross salary of the postdoctoral researcher;
  • The coverage of any additional costs incurred by the postdoctoral researcher in relation to the research (e.g., colloquia), limited to €5 000 maximum; and
  • Fees for the host institution, used to cover all or some of the expenses related to the postdoctoral research (e.g., employer’s tax, overhead costs, etc.).

The specific details of funding allocation will be worked out by the host institution,
the Institute of Mental Health.
